Start journey at hambanthota to katharagama at 8.00 a.m. Kataragama is the most important pilgrimage site in Sri Lanka. A holy place for Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus and Veddah people. In July and August, the Kataragama Festival draws thousands of pilgrims. Apart from festival time, the town is busiest at weekends and on poya (full moon) days. It is easily visited from Tissa.
Next we travel to Mahiyanganaya. You can travel ancient Mahiyangana sacred temple, one-man-made historical wonder - Sorabora tank, Diyaluma water falls, Visit the Veddas Village. Then end of the tour visit maligawila temple buddha statue. Maligawila is remote village in the Moneragala District which lies about 15 kilometers off the Buttala town towards Okkampitiya. In 1951, a massive Buddha Statue broken in to pieces was discovered in the Jungles of Maligawila. The statue was further damaged by treasure hunters.
